Hywind Tampen: Control and Visualization of Floating Offshore Wind Farm Powering Oil & Gas
Project Objective:
As part of the green transition, reduction of the emission from Oil & Gas installation through electrification is one of the main goals. Norway has defined a plan for a 70% reduction of emissions from Oil & Gas installations. This will come from Grid connections or connection to Offshore Wind Farms. Hywind Tampen is the first Oil & Gas installation to be powered from an offshore wind farm.
Hywind Tampen wind farm is a 95MW wind farm located in the North Sea between the Oil installations Snorre and Gullfaks. The wind farm consists of 11 Floating Wind Turbine based on the SPAR concept Hywind. The windfarm is estimated to deliver 35% of the power to the platforms on the Snorre and Gullfaks fields, resulting in a reduction of 200.000 tonnes CO2 emission yearly.
Equinor and Wood Group awarded Goodtech the delivery of the Employer SCADA and Control System for the Hywind Tampen Wind Farm. Systems that ensures optimal, safe and reliable operation of the offshore wind farm from the Equinor Wind Control Room.
Goodtech’s long and successful collaboration with Equinor on the Hywind floating offshore wind concept combined with the expertise in SCADA projects and 3rd party integration are key reasons for the award of the Hywind Tampen project.
Client Value:
Efficient and Scalable Solution
The implementation of Goodtech Wind SCADA enables real-time monitoring and control designed for a wind farm for increased efficiency, easy operation and designed for scalability.
System Integration – Secure data flow
The key to a successful project is the integration of key information from 3rd party systems in the windfarm. Goodtech have used their extensive experience in system integration from multiple industries to achieve a successful and secure integration.
High Availability and Optimalization
As part of the Operation & Maintenance of the Hywind Tampen Project, a Goodtech Managed Services agreement has been made to secure a high availability of the systems and continuously improve the delivered solution.

Scope of Work
The objective of the Hywind Tampen Employer SCADA project is to give the Wind Farm operators the optimal system for operation of the wind farm. With a SCADA system based on proven Technology modified for wind operation, called Wind SCADA, Goodtech have delivered a system that meets the requirements for optimal operation of a windfarm. The control room technology, network and infrastructure were designed for high availability.
Required and necessary information from 3rd party systems have been integrated into the Wind SCADA using Goodtech extensive experience in such integration and based on Cyber Security principles.
Each Floating Wind Turbine is equipped with Goodtech Cabinets and with controllers that contribute to an optimal control of the stability of the turbine and secure power distribution.
Wind SCADA & Wind Control Room
Goodtech Wind SCADA is a SCADA system based on AVEVA system Platform with a framework specially developed for Offshore Wind farms. The Wind SCADA is operated from the Wind Control Room on a KVM and Large Screen Display solution delivered by Goodtech.
Interface Integration
Goodtech integrated 3rd party systems on both the floating wind turbine, the Oil & Gas Power Management systems and cloud-based systems. Ensuring a secure data connection and a high availability of the dataflow.
Wind Control System
Goodtech have delivered a control system located on each turbine to control the local switchgear, optimize the turbine control and to interface a number of 3rd party systems and instruments to provide essential information to the Wind Farm operators in the Wind Control Room.
Network & Cyber Security
Goodtech have designed the network and delivered all network Switches for the Wind SCADA and Wind Control System and delivered the virtualized servers for project.
