Zooca - Calanus

Complete turnkey factory – Fish Oil & Protein plant

Zooca®

As a Norwegian company, Zooca® has created a biomarine value chain with a focus on sustainable harvesting and further processing of the small zooplankton Calanus finmarchicus, the largest renewable resource in the Norwegian Sea. The company's head office is located in the city of Tromsø. Zooca specialises in the development, production, and sale of unique functional health and nutritional products for both humans, fish, and animals.

Client Value:

Efficient and Scalable Solution:

The implementation of Goodtech's turnkey factory enables the production of lipids, protein extract, and powder from the previously unutilized resource of raw nutrients from the zooplankton species Calanus finmarchicus.

Sustainable Harvesting:

Harvesting Calanus enables a sustainable way of increasing the marine supply of nutrients for human consumption. The total sum of the global fisheries and aquaculture is approximately half of the yearly biomass of Calanus.

Challenges:

The challenge in the process involves the arrival of frozen blocks of Calanus finmarchicus and water to the factory. These blocks are processed to produce high-quality lipids, protein extract, and powder. The high requirements for uptime drive the need to optimize and minimize the time spent on cleaning.

Requirements:

To meet the objectives, the project aims to minimize manual labor, reduce costs, improve health, safety, and environmental impact. Additionally, operating with a high degree of automation is a key requirement.

Scope of Work:

The scope of the project includes the design and implementation of a complete turnkey factory for the production of lipids, protein extract, and powder from Calanus finmarchicus. Goodtech's expertise in automation and process optimization ensures efficient and reliable operation of the factory. The network infrastructure and cybersecurity measures are designed to ensure the security and availability of the system.
